Afterimage is a solo exhibition by Edinburgh-based Polish artist Sylwia Kowalczyk, curated by Alexander Moore and presented at Studies in Photography during Edinburgh’s 2025 festival season. Featuring photographic collages from her acclaimed series Lethe and Metamorphoses, the exhibition explores memory, identity, and surrealism through a distinctive visual language.

Part of the UK/Poland Season 2025 and aligned with the Edinburgh International Festival’s “The Truth We Seek” theme, Afterimage offers a platform for cultural dialogue, with events including a Polish-language artist talk, a surrealist collage workshop, and a live performance.

Through this exhibition, Kowalczyk brings contemporary Polish perspectives to Scottish audiences, fostering exchange between communities and artforms. Afterimage also acts as a prelude to a major exhibition of Polish photography planned for Dalkeith Palace in 2027, building partnerships and audiences ahead of this larger initiative.
