'Plantation' by Alicja Patanowska
Fleet Street Quarter Business Improvement District is proud to be showcasing 'Plantation', an installation by leading Polish artist Alicja Patanowska, in the Urban Farmer Project. Alicja's work considers the intersection of art and sustainability, finding beauty in the discarded and creating life from waste. Plantation encourages a deeper appreciation for plants and the environment. This project consists of handcrafted porcelain elements designed for hydroponic plant cultivation, paired with repurposed drinking glasses. By exposing root systems, the design highlights themes of sustainability, regeneration, and the overlooked beauty of natural processes. The installation is a cooperation with Fleet Street Quarter BID, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, the Polish Culture Institute, Let's Art Foundation and On&On Designs.
Plantation of Care – Workshops with Alicja Patanowska, part of the FSQ Programme for the London Festival of Architecture
Join artist Alicja Patanowska for a hands-on workshop exploring sustainability, upcycling, and plant care through hydroponic cultivation. Inspired by her living installation PLANTATION, the session invites you to create a miniature garden using recovered glass and handcrafted porcelain. Together, we’ll reflect on care – for nature, for others, and for the overlooked beauty in everyday materials. Participants are encouraged to share their growing plants as part of the “Share as you care” initiative.
