Music on the Heights is an International Chamber Music Festival organised yearly by the Mieczysław Karłowicz Association in Zakopane since 2009. The festival has hosted many acclaimed musicians, with some international stars such as the Kronos Quartet, The King’s Singers, Ewa Pobłocka, Mayuko Kamio, the Royal String Quartet, The Brodsky Quartet, to name a few.
The main focus of this year’s festival programme is the song as a musical form and how it has evolved over the years, undergoing countless treatments by different composers. Polish and international composers will be represented, interpreted by widely acclaimed musicians.
The festival will also continue its tradition of screening films about music. This year’s edition will feature Mahler, a biographical film from 1974, depicting the Late-Romantic Austrian composer and considered to be one of the best films by the controversial British film director, Ken Russell.
The festival programme will also feature a series of talks hosted by the Polish National Radio Channel 2 journalists, as well as chamber music master classes for students and youth.
