As we approach the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Poland’s largest institution of higher education in the field of fine arts – University of the Arts Poznan, on 8 October we will have a pleasure to host Mr. Richard Wilson –an outstanding and intriguing British artist who will visit us at the invitation of professor Katarzyna Kujawska-Murphy. The artist will deliver two lectures during the inauguration ceremony of the new academic year.
Richard Wilson is a master of illusion and one of the most significant contemporary artists. He creates installations and sculptures aimed at disorienting the viewer. He has been nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize Award twice. His work entitled 20:50 – a room flooded in oil that with its endlessness reflects and absorbes the surrounding space, is currently a part of the Saatchi Gallery Collection. In the BBC programme The History of British Art, critic Alex Dixon named it as one of the most important works of art of the 20th century
In 2014 Wison’s spectacular sculpture was unveiled at the newly-opened terminal of Heathrow Airport. Another one of his famous installations is Turning the place over. The artist cut an ovoid from the facade form a building in Liverpool and made it oscillate at 360 degrees.
Works of Mr. Wilson are exhibited in world’s most important galleries and museum. Since 2006 he has served as honorary professor of The Royal Academy of Arts.
