Scenes from Shakespeare in English Festival was created in 1999. Every year young people from schools in Poland present monologues, dialogues and group stagings which last from 5 to 20 minutes. The Grand Prix winner(s) go to England on a one-week trip. They stay in London with an English family and watch a play by William Shakespeare in the most famous theatre in the world – The Globe. They also go for one day to Stratford-upon-Avon to visit Shakespeare’s Birthplace and see a play in Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre.
The 18th Festival Scenes from Shakespeare will take place on 12 March 2016 in Centrum Kultury, ul. Peowiaków 12, Lublin. It will begin at 11.00 with a film presentation of the last year's edition and the appearance of Grand Prix 2015 winner. The ending is planned at about 20.00 with a competition about life and output of Shakespeare and the announcement of winners. The festival will be accompanied by two events: a display of posters made by participants and a competition about life and output of William Shakespeare for members of public and participants.
In 2016 the whole world celebrate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. The Festival Scenes from Shakespeare is part of the #ShakespeareLives programme. A play by Panopticum Theatre from Lublin will be presented during the Festival: A Time for Such a Word as Death based on Hamlet, Macbeth and Othello.
