Join us during the Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival for a unique opportunity to witness ceramic art in the making! As part of the Ceramic Cities Exchange project, young artists from Poland and the UK will be creating original ceramic sculptures live at the Centre for Old Pottery Techniques – a branch of the Ceramics Museum. Visitors are welcome to observe the creative process as it unfolds over three days, in an open studio setting specially arranged for this occasion. The studio space will remain open to the public throughout the event, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at how contemporary ceramic art is made.

Ceramic Cities Exchange is an international exchange that creates space for young, under-represented artists to transform the traditions of place into reimagined futures. Bolesławiec and Stoke-on-Trent are internationally recognised for their ceramic industries – each home to generations of skilled artists and craftspeople exhibiting the utmost artistry and skill. Drawing upon their remarkable ceramic heritage, each city has fostered broad and innovative contemporary practice. The two partner organisations are champions for the industrial and artistic ceramics practice of their respective cities – providing a bridge between historic and contemporary exponents.

Ceramic Cities Exchange supports 6 bright, young artists (age 18-24) from Stoke-on-Trent to explore their hometown’s ceramic heritage in comparison to the ceramic traditions of Bolesławiec. Supported by professional artists and industry partners, the participating artists undertake visits to industrial manufacturers, meet artists, explore collections and spend time developing their ceramic practice. The project supports ambitious artists who may otherwise not have the opportunity to travel and access the opportunities this presents. Ceramic Cities Exchange begins through a digital exchange in spring 2025, later moving into an in-person exchange visit in August 2025, to result in an exhibit of the new ceramic works in November 2025 in Bolesławiec.
