Contemporary World Premiere of Godfrey Finger’s Semi-Opera The Fate of Troy
October 10 | Spa Theatre (pl. Teatr Zdrojowy), Szczawno-Zdrój

Join us for a unique cultural event: the contemporary world premiere of The Fate of Troy, a semi-opera by Moravian-born composer Godfrey Finger, with a libretto based on Elkanah Settle’s dramatic work Cassandra – The Virgin Prophetess.

Originally written for the Royal Theatre Drury Lane and performed in London in 1701, this rarely heard piece returns to the stage in October. Created during the final year of James II’s reign, Finger’s opera offers a glimpse into a fascinating and often overlooked chapter of English musical history—between the eras of Purcell and Handel.

This semi-staged production will feature an international ensemble of artists from Poland and the Czech Republic, celebrating the rich cultural exchange that has long shaped Europe’s musical heritage.

By reviving The Fate of Troy, this event not only contributes to Polish and Czech cultural life, but also challenges long-held assumptions about the so-called “silent” period in English music. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience a forgotten gem of Baroque opera brought vividly back to life.
