The Polish National Ballet, The Grand Theatre – National Opera

The year 2014 marked 450 years since the birth of William Shakespeare, whilst 2016 will see the 400th anniversary of his death.

The Polish National Ballet decided a few years ago to tackle the great tradition as well, offering the dancers and audiences more chances to experience Shakespeare on the stage of the The Grand Theatre – National Opera. Since then The Polish National Ballet has included in their repertoire John Neumeier’s amazing A Midsummer Night’s Dream and John Cranko’s charming comedy after The Taming of the Shrew. Krzysztof Pastor has already put on his version of Romeo and Juliet, and will debut his adaptation of The Tempest in the 2015/16 season. Jacek Tyski has chosen Hamlet as his fully fledged choreographic debut at our chamber auditorium. All of the ballets are part of the 2015/16 repertoire, culminating in April 2016 in the Shakespeare Festival on the 400 anniversary of the Bard’s death.
