In the novel "Nostromo", Joseph Conrad masterfully analyzes phenomena such as corruption, ruthlessness, greed, but also the sense of social injustice following them. However, the mechanism of power is not the only character in the novel - another one is Nostromo - a young sailor, an honorable, proud, and brave man, and at the same time... a thief. A righteous man entangled in an intrigue and exposed to the most important test in his life, is one of Conrad's favorite themes.
There is also a third hero of this novel - the word- a rich and refined language that Maciej Świerkocki, the author of the latest translation of "Nostromo", had to deal with. Although the original was written over 100 years ago and the action of the novel was set in a fictional republic, we can easily find references to realities close not only to Conrad, but also to us. Maciej Świerkocki's translation brings out all this from the novel, thanks to which Conrad is still considered a giant of literature.
Polish Theatre in Warsaw invites you to a meeting with Maciej Świerkocki - the author of a new translation of Joseph Conrad's "Nostromo".
The conversation will be led by Janusz Majcherek, and fragments of the book will be read by Krzysztof Kwiatkowski.
