Throughout March, fragments of poems will be displayed in the underground and public buses in Warsaw. Postcards featuring the poems will also be available in cafes and cultural institutions.
Full versions of the poems will be available at www.wierszewmetrze.eu, as well as information on the poets and translators. A Haiku for Warsaw competition will also be announced shortly.
The aim of Wiersze w Metrze is to popularise contemporary European poetry in the Warsaw underground. It is inspired by the Poems on the Underground initiative which began in London in 1986, and has been organised regularly since then. Similar projects have also taken place in Dublin, Paris, New York, Barcelona, Stockholm, Stuttgart and Moscow, among others.
The fifth edition of Wiersze w Metrze is organised by EUNIC Warsaw.
Wiersze w Metrze was initiated by the Book Institute and the British Council in 2008.
