We are able to refund your examination fee only under the following conditions:

  • if an application to withdraw the examination fee is submitted no later than 14 days from the date of registration.
  • if an application to withdraw the examination fee is submitted before close of registration but after 14 days from the date of registration.
  • if the candidate was absent during the examination for medical reasons.
  • because of the death of a close relative.
  • because of the death of the candidate.

If you withdraw your application, you should contact the British Council exam centre of your choice by the stated deadline and submit a request form for an exam fee refund, indicating the chosen form of refund, together with proof of payment.

In case of absence for medical reasons, you should submit a medical statement (which can be issued on a British Council template) and a request form for an exam fee refund, indicating the chosen form of refund, together with proof of payment.

In case of absence due to the close relative death, you should submit a copy of the death certificate, and a request form for an exam fee refund, indicating the chosen form of refund, together with proof of payment.

In case of absence due to the candidate's death, a person from the family or an institution that had paid the exam fee should submit a copy of the death certificate, and a request form for an exam fee refund, indicating the chosen form of refund, together with proof of payment.

A full or partial refund can be made in the following ways:

  • bank transfer
  • an exam voucher which will cover the whole or part of the examination fee in a subsequent exam session within two years from the date of issue.

The request and supporting documents must be submitted to the British Council examination centre within two weeks of the date of the written exams and you will receive a refund of:

  • 60% in the form of a bank transfer or postal order in the case of absence for medical reasons or a close relative's death.
  • 80%  in the form of a voucher for medical reasons or a close relative's death.
  • 80%  in the form of a bank transfer or postal order in the case of a withdrawal of the examination fee before close of registration but after 14 days from the date of registration.
  • 100% in the form of a voucher in the case of a withdrawal of the examination fee before close of registration but after 14 days from the date of registration.
  • 100% in the form of a voucher, bank transfer or postal order in the case of  a withdrawal of the examination fee no later than 14 days from the date of registration.

All approved requests for refund are processed within 30 days of the receipt of the full set of correctly completed documentation.

Fees cannot be transferred to a later exam period or from one level of examination to another.

Other changes 

  • Candidates can request to change the date or time of the speaking test. Contact the British Council to apply for a change of your speaking test date. There is a fee of 50 PLN. Such changes will only be possible until the end of the current examination speaking window, on condition that the speaking test is conducted more than once within the same examination session.
  • The date and the venue (examination centre) of the written and listening parts of the examination cannot be changed.
